Windows

When choosing the right windows for your home the major things to consider are the materials used to construct the window frame and casing and the type of glass used.

There are basically three types of windows to choose from - wood, metal clad or vinyl - and the choice will depend on the look you want to achieve and the time you want to spend on maintanence.

Wood windows offer a beautiful, natural look inside and out. All the wood windows MCM supplies and installs are made of hemlock - a tight-grained hardwood that grows stronger with age and is resistent to denting. Wood windows can be stained in a wide variety of colours to complement your home’s architecture and interior design but they do require regular maintenance to ensure long lasting beauty and performance.

Metal clad windows are very popular because they combine the beauty of wood inside with a metal clad exterior that protects the wood from weathering and requires very little maintenance. Metal clad windows are available in a wide variety of exterior colours from light shades of linen, ivory and tan to dark, contemporary colours such as chestnut, rust, cinnamon and dark blue.

Vinyl or PVC windows are a versatile alternative to wood or metal clad windows. They require little maintenance, are dependable in all kinds of weather and offer lasting strength and durability. Vinyl or PVC windows are available in white or ivory inside and a variety of exterior colours to help you achieve the look you want for your home.

Since 85% of a window is made up of glass it’s important to choose glass wisely to maximize energy efficiency. Window glass is available in either dualpane - two glass panels separated by a sealed airspace - or tripane - three glass panels separated by two sealed airspaces. Tripane glass performs very well in extreme climates because of the extra insulation provided by the additional glass and airspace.

Low E, or low emissivity, refers to a transparent metallic coating applied to one side of the glass unit in either dual- or tripane windows. There are different types of Low-E glass depending on your needs such as for keeping your home cool in summer or warm in winter. All Low E glass helps reduce energy costs.
