Pros and Cons of Vinyl Doors

Vinyl doors are appreciated for their durability among the other doors available. Vinyl doors aren’t only meant for the front doors; they can also be used as home doors for the interior. The homeowners mostly use wood doors, they look classic for a house. But wooden doors need high maintenance as they are exposed to the weather when used for exteriors. With the advantages, the vinyl also has some disadvantages that you have to understand before choosing the right door.

      Pros:

      Durability

When you install a vinyl home door, you will have to worry less about the door getting damaged. Vinyl doors hold great durability that makes them survive for several years. The PVC doors resist the damage caused by the termite to a wooden home door. The vinyl doors are anti-corrosive and they also resist moisture and chemicals. The key aspect is that the vinyl material gives the door excellent weather resistance. It also has the ability to withstand various temperature conditions.

      Maintenance

Another benefit of the vinyl home door is that the door requires low maintenance. Unlike steel and wooden doors, you have to check it for regular maintenance. Due to the weather, the wood and steel doors can get affected severely. You have to repair those doors frequently and have to maintain them regularly. On the other hand, you only require a routine dusting and wiping if you have vinyl home doors. It can be done with a soft clean cloth and mild cleaning agents.

      Low Cost

The cost of the vinyl doors is cheaper when compared with others. The benefit vinyl doors provide is that at a low price, they provide superior durability. As discussed before, the doors can stand strong in various temperatures for a decade or two. You won’t find such a great deal when buying home doors of different materials like wood or steel. Wood and steel door prices are higher than vinyl doors. Wood and steel doors require high maintenance, and again vinyl doors will save your costs with the low maintenance they require.

      Insulation

The vinyl door has high insulation properties. The insulation in the doors helps in the energy efficiency of the building. The vinyl doors are hollow inside; they are filled with insulation and are sealed with tight rubber seal. When the glasses are used with the vinyl doors, installing the double glazed panels will increase the insulation properties of the door. With good insulation properties, the vinyl doors will survive the winter easily.

      Lightweight

Vinyl home doors are lightweight, which makes the installation process a lot easier. It can be replaced with less workforce because the lightweight door can be lifted easily. Wooden and steel doors are heavier and are a bit difficult for installation. Even for day-to-day operations, vinyl doors are easier to handle. Senior citizens and kids will be able to handle the door easily without much effort. Due to its effortless operations, it will be beneficial for the house with senior citizens.

      Recyclable

The vinyl doors are also recyclable. If you use vinyl home doors, then you may also contribute to a healthy environment. Like the steel and wooden doors, this door is also eligible for recycling. The parts of this door will be used in creating the material for other vinyl doors. You can also buy recycled vinyl doors, it will cut your cost more and you will gain the same benefits as of the new vinyl door.

      Cons:

      Installation of Hardware

Once the vinyl door is installed, you will have to take care of the door. You can’t let the door get damaged because once the door gets damaged, it will become hard for you to do the repairs. If you want to install hardware like a lock in the door, it can be difficult as the vinyl material is brittle and it can crack easily. If there is any crack on the shutter, then it will become very difficult for you to repair the crack on the door.

      Exposure to Sunlight

The Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride (UPVC) doors are made to resist the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Whereas, the PVC doors can get damaged when they are exposed to the sunlight for an extended period of time. PVC vinyl doors are not as strong as UPVC doors to withstand the sunlight. When the vinyl door is exposed to the sun, it causes the door to fade, discolour and the door surface becomes more brittle. You will have to consider this factor when you are choosing the door for the exterior front of your home, as the front faces the sunlight directly.

      Appearance

The vinyl home doors may not appear as good as the wooden and steel doors. The wooden and steel doors have different designs and due to that, it looks more appealing to the eyes. There are many types of door styles, designs and colours available to choose from, but it won’t make a great impact as the other doors do. The surface of the vinyl door won’t make a visual appeal as good as wooden doors.

      Strength

Vinyl home doors can be durable, but they lack strength. Vinyl doors are also lightweight, which is a great aspect, but it may lead to restrain the strength of the door. The strength of the door can affect the security of the house. The vinyl door can be easily broken. Think before installing vinyl doors for the exteriors.

If you are considering buying a vinyl door, then before doing so, consider all these tips. See how well the vinyl door suits your use. Only then you should step forward to buy a vinyl door. For easy installation of the doors, you can call our professionals for excellent services.

The first time I talked to Gord for an estimate... was in the spring of 2018. It took me a full year to actually make the decision to go ahead with the project and Gord was super patient about having to come out and measure everything a second time this summer. He also put me in touch with an electrician who did excellent work with us as part of this project. We had all of our stucco removed and new insulation put up and then hardie board and all of the trim pieces/window finishes done as well. Everyone who worked together to make this happen did an excellent job. If you live in Edmonton, you know that we had pretty terrible weather this summer, but it didn't feel like this project took longer than Gord originally estimated it would take so that was great! I had a couple of questions at the end and Gord was great at answering them and sorted out an issue we had with one downspout placement no problem as well. This commitment to customer service/satisfaction is so important and I am happy to recommend MCM. He was also super helpful when we were choosing a colour and had a swatch book fedexed over to us. Pricing: In comparison to the other quotes I got, MCM was the lower cost option for sure. Based on what the other quotes looked like it seemed like other places were really marking up the hardie board product quite a lot. It was an expensive project, but I'm very happy with it and believe it was worth the price!read more

We have just successfully completed a full... exterior renovation project with MCM Home Exteriors. We replaced and updated all windows, roof, siding, stonework, soffits, fascia, eaves and downspouts. This was no small undertaking on a 2300 sq. ft home considering our start and completion date requests. The project began and concluded as per the scheduled timelines that we arranged with MCM. The quality of the workmanship is simply unparalleled and the quoted amount of this enormous project is the exact amount that we paid upon completion. This is a rarity in the world of renovations and demonstrates MCM's commitment to excellence and maintaining the trust of their valued customers. We have been solely working with MCM since 2003 when we were fortunate enough to begin our longstanding and trusting working relationship with the Owners, Managers and dedicated Crews. We would recommend MCM to those looking for professionalism in the realm of renovations and trades, particularly if you are considering a project but simply aren't sure what questions to ask and where to begin. We would trust MCM to work on our children's future home projects. That alone says a lot about our working relationship. The Auger'sread more
